Punjab Pilot Projects Completed

Project: Multan Handloom Cluster
Location: Multan
Intervention: - Product Design & Marketing
Duration: 8 months
Beneficiaries: Direct 90 (all males)
Partner Organization: All Pakistan Handloom & Traditional Textile Manufacturers & Exporters Association

This project was initiated with the help of All Pakistan Handloom Association in Samejabad, in the surrounding area of Multan.
Primarily, the skill prevailing in Multan is a handloom work at a cottage level. The handloom manufacturers of Multan are involved in manufacturing of very diverse range of products mainly divided in two broad categories apparel and home textile. Since the home textile products like floor mats, table mats, kitchen ware items etc. are very popular in Multan and have a great demand in the market, it was proposed that AHAN will focus on existing strengths of a cluster i.e. home textile products. The production process for handloom products starts from product designing. The manufacturers of Multan do not have the capabilities and facilities of product designing whilst the designs were provided by the retailers/traders/middle men.
Therefore AHAN decided to intervene in developing and improving the design standards as well as to create retail marketing facilities for the manufacturers.
The designs assistance was provided through AHAN’s in house designers on the chosen products, table mats and floor mats. Hence, twelve designs were provided in table mats and fifteen designs in floor mats. The idea was to get the production made and subsequently create market linkages for the manufacturers.
